After WhatsApp, Viber becomes the latest instant messaging
service that applies end-to-end encryption feature over the entire contents in
its network, including one on one text messages, group chat, pictures and voice
calls.
Through its official blog, Viber explained that the encryption
feature includes all platforms where Viber is available. So no matter where you
use Viber, from a desktop or mobile, the communication will run more secure
than ever.
Just like WhatsApp, Viber's encryption feature can be
enjoyed simply by updating to the latest version that will be launched
gradually in the next two weeks. As a sign that the encryption feature has been
activated, the user will see a gray padlock icon on the right side of chat
column.
Viber also gives users a freedom to manually select any
contacts they trust. In this case, the padlock icon will turn green. If the
icon changes to red, it could be that the contact has been hacked or simply
replace it with a new device, so the authentication process must be repeated.
Viber's concern for privacy and security doesn't stop there.
Viber also introduces a new feature called Hidden Chat, where users can hide
certain conversations from the main screen with PIN code.
This feature is very useful for confidential conversations,
or simply restricts the access of friends who like to borrow the device.
