Good news for the owners of Tesla Model S and Model X. Tesla
Motors is offering a free trial for 30 days for those who are interested to try
out the Autopilot feature.
But does this Autopilot feature require special hardware?
Yes, but all the Tesla Model S and Model X that are created after September
2014 have been equipped with all required sensors and other hardware. Consumers
only need to add $ 2,500 to activate the Autopilot feature when the car is delivered,
or $ 3,000 thereafter.
Now consumers can try the Autopilot feature for free for 30
days. This trial includes all the features in Autopilot system, including
automatic steering, automatic path shift, adaptive cruise control, as well as
Summon feature. After 30 days free trial, the consumers can pay $ 3,000 if they
want to continue to enjoy this Autopilot feature.
This news was first circulated on Reddit, where a Tesla
Model S owner uploaded an image that showed notification of Autopilot free
trial on the dashboard screen. Tesla Motors spokesperson has also confirmed it
to Road & Track.
This is not the first time Tesla made a surprise, previously
Tesla had ever sent a software update for the Tesla Model S P85D that could
increase the speed of acceleration.
