The public's interest
in virtual reality is immediately followed by the efforts of many producers to
create contents and facilitate the creators to make new innovation. Recognizing
its important role in this segment, GoPro continuously develops its ecosystem.
Last year this action-cam manufacturer introduced the Odyssey, and recently
GoPro has revealed the Omni VR as a more affordable alternative.
Once the hardware has
been ready, the next step is to process the software elements. GoPro announces
GoPro VR, which is a platform for accessing and sharing VR contents. Just like
the other virtual reality platforms, the app promises a collection of 360
degree videos 'that can turn the screen into a virtual portal', contains
original works of GoPro's global community.
GoPro VR can be enjoyed
through a web browser, free mobile application (via Google Play or the Apple
app store), as well as portable VR headset. Its mobile version is very
intuitive and easy to use. On the menu, you will be served with 14 categories
of 360 degree videos, for example, education, entertainment, architecture, up
to music. Interestingly, this part is dominated by sports videos (showing the
popularity of GoPro in that area).
The videos can be
enjoyed with or without a headset, and you can use the smartphone vertically or
horizontally. If you want to pair the handset on the head-mounted display,
don't forget to enable the stereoscopic mode.
GoPro Omni VR comes as
a more affordable option for consumers. Omni presents a blend of six action
cameras, Hero4 Black, that are interconnected to create a high-resolution
recording, supported by Kolor stitching software. There is a special component
in the Omni, enabling the synchronization process at the pixel level.
Omni can be used to
'over capture' and recording at resolutions of 8K. After the recording process
is complete, you can utilize Omni Importer for preview, tamper with Kolor
Autopan Video, rechecking the results through GoPro VR player, and then upload
it on the GoPro VR website. GoPro is also collaborating with Adobe to simplify
the process of video editing.
The pre-order period
has been started along with the release of GoPro VR. One set is offered at a
price of $ 5,000. The bundle is including battery, Smart Remote, cable, 32GB
microSD card and a card reader.
