After releasing Lumix GF8 that's focusing on selfie
features, now Panasonic is back into the more 'serious' segment by launching
the Lumix GX80. This new mirrorless camera can be considered as the little
brother of Lumix GX8 with a more affordable price.
Lumix GX80 is still wearing the 16 megapixels Micro Four
Thirds sensor which has become the mainstay of Panasonic for several years. But
this time there is no low-pass filter component, so the shot is claimed will be
a bit more detail than the other Panasonic cameras that use the same sensor.
This sensor has a sensitivity of ISO 100 - 25600. For the
video lovers, the Lumix GX80 can record in 3840 x 2160 resolutions, aka 4K 30
fps. The uniqueness of the GX80 is the shutter component which adopts the electromagnet
system to reduce blur that's caused by movement of the shutter when snapping
pictures.
Lumix GX80 also becomes the first mirrorless camera of
Panasonic that carries 5-axis image stabilization system. Just like its big
brother, this system can also be activated simultaneously with default
stabilizer of lens to ensure that the image won't be blurring even if the user
doesn't use a tripod.
The 49 dots autofocus system embraces the Depth technology
from Defocus (DFD) which is the same as its predecessors (Lumix GH4, Lumix
GX8), ensuring fast focus locking, accurate, and reliable at all times.
Furthermore, GX80 is also equipped with Post Focus feature so that user can
change the focal point after shooting.
The design of Lumix GX80 is much inspired by Lumix GX8, but
with a smaller hand grip and also a more compact dimension. Nevertheless, it is
still equipped with a rotary knob that can be customized. Example: front knob
to set the ISO, rear knob to adjust the shutter speed.
On the rear you will find an electronic viewfinder at 2.7
million dot resolution and 3-inch touch screen at 1.04 million dot resolution.
This screen can be tilted up to 80 degrees, or down to 45 degrees. This camera
is not intended for selfie.
Panasonic Lumix GX80 is planned to be marketed on May 2016
for $ 800, includes the 12-32mm, f / 3.5 - 5.6 lens.
