MeLE, an Android device manufacturer from China, has
recently introduced an Ubuntu-based stick PC. Just like any other stick PCs,
its function is to change the monitor or TV into a computer via the HDMI
connection.
Ubuntu itself is an operating system that can be obtained
for free, therefore the advantage of MeLE PCG02U lies on its price. It is
priced no more than $ 70, or in other words it becomes the most affordable
stick PC so far.
But of course you can't expect extraordinary specifications
from a device which is costing only $ 70. It is powered by an Intel BayTrail
Z3735F, 2 GB RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. Its USB port is only one, so
that one of your peripherals (keyboard or mouse) must be based on Bluetooth if
you want to use them simultaneously.
Even so, MeLE still offers two things that are not owned by
Intel Compute Stick: 1) an external antenna to amplify Wi-Fi signal and 2)
Ethernet port to connect a LAN cable.
The other thing that is unfortunate is its Ubuntu version
14.0.4 has been outdated; however the users can still update it with ease. In
spite of that, $ 70 is a number that hardly be found for this kind of device.
