Despite offers customization option through a strap that can
be removed and reassembled, in fact, every Android Wear smartwatch has a
different mechanism from each other. Now Google tries to offer a universal
solution that can be applied to the majority of Android Wear smartwatches.
Working closely with the Hadley-Roma, they introduce MODE,
an accessories line (strap) for Android Wear smartwatches with the concept of
"snap-and-swap". The concept is interesting because whatever type of
Android Wear smartwatch you wear - as long as it is compatible - the mechanism
of release and mounting is exactly the same.
MODE consists of two parts. The first is a small rod that's
attached to the top and bottom of smartwatch. The rod becomes a hook for the
strap. And the strap itself is equipped with hook mechanism that can be locked
or removed with just one click.
MODE comes in four sizes: 16 mm, 18 mm, 20 mm and 22 mm. It
is compatible with Moto 360 2nd Gen, Asus ZenWatch and ZenWatch 2, Huawei
Watch, LG Watch Urbane and G Watch R, as well as Samsung Gear Live.
Interestingly, MODE is also claimed to be compatible with regular wristwatch.
Unfortunately for now MODE is available only for the US
market. The prices range between $ 50 - $ 60 depend on the material, whether
silicone or leather. At the same time, Google also opens an opportunity for the
brands outside US which are interested to create their own MODE straps.
