One by one, the smartphones manufacturers began to enter the
virtual reality segment. Samsung started it by introducing the Gear VR in
September 2014, and then it was followed by LG, and now Huawei doesn't want to
lose the momentum.
Huawei VR works almost similar to Samsung Gear VR. The users
can simply open the front cover, insert the smartphone into it, and then it's
ready for use.
Huawei VR is compatible with the two latest flagship
handsets: Huawei P9 and P9 Plus, and it's rumored that there will be another
new version, Mate 8. The display resolution is of course following the
smartphone screen used, but Huawei claims that its VR headset is the first
device which offers 3D audio feature.
Just like the Gear VR, the right side of Huawei VR is also
filled with touch panel, the back button and volume button. The lenses can also
be adjusted to accommodate the users who have myopia (up to minus 7).
Huawei VR has a latency of 20 milliseconds and 95 degree
viewing angle - similar to Gear VR. Huawei also provides a blue light filter so
that the user's eyes won't get tired easily.
Unfortunately Huawei doesn't disclose about the platform
that will be used by Huawei VR, whether Google Cardboard or just like the Gear
VR which uses the Oculus. But certainly, Huawei VR will come along with various
free contents, covering 4,000 videos and 40 games, plus 350 panoramic images
and 150 virtual tours.
