Skype for Web in Microsoft Edge now doesn't need a plugin anymore

Skype for Web in Microsoft Edge

Skype has evolved from a video calling service for desktop and mobile devices into full communication service that's available in almost all medium. Skype is now available directly in the web and also in other services such as Office Online

But recently the Skype developer team has managed to take a new achievement, where Skype for Web now doesn't require a plugin at all, as long as the user has used the Microsoft Edge browser.

The collaboration between Skype developer team and Microsoft Edge makes this convenience can be realized. Previously the users of Skype for Web must first download and install a special plugin to be able to start a video call via a browser, but now not anymore.

This means that users can directly log in by using his/her Skype account and start chatting with colleagues via the Microsoft Edge browser. Another requirement that must be met is the interlocutor should also use Skype for Web in Microsoft Edge, or the latest version of Skype for Windows or Mac.

Microsoft seems committed to bring Skype for Web without plugin to modern browsers, including Chrome and Firefox. Even so of course there should be intervention from each developer teams.

Since this feature is still in preview stage, there are a number of features that still require plugin, i.e. the Screen Sharing and make calls to standard telephone. Furthermore, if the interlocutor doesn't use the latest version of the Skype app, you will still be prompted to install the plugin.
