Broadly speaking, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are
designed to reduce the users' habits in using smartphones while driving. This
method will enhance the driving safety where the drivers are able to access a
variety of information through the dashboard, while still focusing to the
road.
And what’s about the bikers? As we know, there are also many
bikers who use smartphones while on the road. This action is clearly very
dangerous, both for the bikers and others. Seeing this, Samsung seems to have
initiative that could become an interesting solution.
Samsung has just showed off a prototype of Samsung Smart
Windshield, which in essence can be interpreted as Android Auto or Apple
CarPlay for motorcycles. In the demonstration, Smart Windshield screen is
placed on the windshield of scooter Yamaha Tricity 125, displays a variety of
information directly in front of the rider.
Smart Windshield works by connecting to a smartphone. From
there it will forward the incoming phone calls, text messages, email to social
media notifications. When there is an incoming message, the rider is free to
choose to stop and reply, or sends an automated reply to let you know that he is
driving and could not respond your call.
Smart Windshield will also feature GPS-based navigation
guides from the smartphone. In essence, users can still access a variety of
information from their smartphones, but at the same time focusing on the road.
This is not the first time Samsung launched initiatives to
improve the driving safety. Last year, Samsung had demonstrated a prototype of
Samsung Safety Truck in Argentina which potentially saves many lives in the
streets.
So far Samsung hasn't revealed its future plans with the Smart
Windshield, whether this prototype will be developed to be final product or
simply remains as an initiative.
