One of the main functions of virtual reality technology is
to 'carry' the users into locations that are difficult to reach or even
impossible to visit in real life. This mission can be achieved with a broad
ecosystem of contents, where users can explore many exotic locations in
immersive way. But what's about the availability of contents?
So far both Google Cardboard and Samsung Gear VR have
offered similar contents in sufficient quantities. But a VR studio named Jaunt
wants to give something more. Working closely with the tourism bureau, Mountain
Travel Sobek, the studio creates cinematic VR videos to give realistic
adventure experiences.
The first result of their collaboration is the VR video that
takes place in the Andes Mountains in Peru. In the video, the users are invited
to enjoy the beautiful panorama around the Salkantay mount to finally arrive at
the historic site of Machu Picchu.
Mountain Travel Sobek itself has offered a tour to this
location for over 40 years, so the users won't miss any interesting location to
visit. This video will be available at Jaunt application that can be downloaded
in the App Store, Google Play or Gear VR Store, and Jaunt is also planning to
release the application for the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and PlayStation VR in the
future.
Users are not required to have a VR headset to enjoy this
360 degree virtual tour - the video can be watched live via a smartphone - but
of course the experience will be more impressive when the video is watched
using Google Cardboard or Gear VR.
