Sigma Launches Its First Duo Mirrorless Cameras: sd Quattro and sd Quattro H

sd Quattro and sd Quattro H

Sigma is known by the photographers as one of the manufactures that produce most complete lenses for various brands. But in recent years, Sigma has also experimented with its own cameras, especially in the Sigma DP Quattro line.

Now Sigma continues to develop its innovative in photography through its first two mirrorless cameras: sd Quattro and sd Quattro H. Both are wearing Foveon sensor that's quite unique. It’s unique because this sensor basically consists of a number of layers, allowing the camera to capture images with richer colors and higher resolution than image sensor technology in general.

Sigma sd Quattro and sd Quattro H have the exact same design, the difference lies only on the size of sensor used: the sd Quattro packs an APS-C sensor, while the sd Quattro H has APS-H sensor which is about 30 percent larger.

The sd Quattro sensor has a resolution of 19.6 megapixels, while the sd Quattro H sensor has 25.5-megapixel resolution, each with a hybrid autofocus system. But because the technology used by the Foveon sensor is unique, each sensor has a resolution that's equivalent with 39 megapixels and 51 megapixels on the Bayer sensor that's used by almost all digital cameras today.

In addition to the use of a unique sensor technology, the design of these two sd Quattro is also interesting. The hand grip is shorter than the body part which packs the sensor. This is because Sigma wants the design of these two cameras can be compatible with the entire line of Sigma lenses, including the lenses for DSLR cameras. As a result, the 'house' of the lens must be made larger.

At the rear, the user will see the 2.3 million dots electronic viewfinder, with viewing angle close to 100 percent, according to Sigma claim. Underneath, there is a 3-inch LCD with a resolution of 1.62 million dots. Uniquely, this LCD is actually made up of two screens; small screen on the right will display the camera settings constantly. All of this is packaged in a magnesium body which's resistant to dust and waterproof.

So far there is no information about the price and availability of these cameras. Sigma is exhibiting both of them to the visitors of CP + 2016 event that's held in Yokohama, Japan.
