March, 2015 was an important date for the auto industry
because the world's fastest supercar, Bugatti Veyron, was officially retired at
that time. Now a year later, Bugatti is ready with a new successor.
At the Geneva Motor Show 2016, Bugatti officially introduces
the Bugatti Chiron, a supercar that will continue the title of Veyron as the
fastest car in the world that can be driven on the streets legally. Not only to
retain the title, Bugatti Chiron also wants to run faster than its predecessor.
Speed is the main selling point of Bugatti Chiron. This car
packs 8-liter W16 engine that's capable of producing 1,500 horsepower. Unlike
the rumored, this machine is pure gasoline engine, not a hybrid engine that's
combined with an electric motor.
The engine specification is actually not much different from
the Veyron's machine, the differences lie on the four components of
turbochargers that work in two stages and also better aerodynamics.
As a result, Chiron could be sped up to 420 km/h. But this
number is actually limited by the electronic system. If allowed to speed
without limitation, Chiron reportedly can reach the speed up to 463 km/h. This
is the reason why its speedometer puts the figure of 500 km/h.
The performance of Chiron is absolutely unquestionable. To
reach the speed of 100 km/h from a stopped position, it managed to record 2.5
seconds, for 0-200 km/h in 6.5 seconds, and 0-300 km/h in 13.6 seconds.
The design of Bugatti Chiron is based on the concept of
Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo which was exhibited last year. The end result is
much more elegant, yet still retains the typical form of the Veyron. At the
rear, a spoiler will appear automatically when Chiron is gassed at high speed.
The cabin of Bugatti Chiron unites the feel of racing with
the luxury that's represented by the skin material in some parts. Bugatti wants
to make sure that this automotive company not only creates the fastest
supercar, but also the most luxurious car.
The skin material is not enough to highlight the luxurious
aura of Chiron. Therefore, Bugatti also provides the latest generation of
digital technology such as the adaptive panel that will adjust to driving
conditions. Furthermore, Chiron also brings a premium sound system, which is
claimed by Bugatti as the world's fastest concert hall.
Bugatti Chiron will be produced only 500 units and one third
of them have been booked by consumers. The rest will be sold for $ 2.5 million
per unit.
