The development of automatic steering technology is running
significantly, various manufacturers, ranging from renowned automotive
manufacturers to new players in the automotive sector such as Google and Baidu,
are vying to create their own self-driving car.
Each company uses different method, Google, for example, up
to this moment Google is continuously testing its self-driving car in the
California streets. The tests aim to train the car's agility and instinct in
order to take over the role of the driver in full.
Meanwhile, the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) prefers to conduct
further research before testing the system in the field. Millions of dollars
have been prepared for the research in order to make the self-driving car able to
drive like a human, not a robot.
In order to realize this mission, JLR will assign some of
its employees to drive the car in a number of locations in the UK. From there,
a number of data will be collected and analyzed, especially how the drivers
react to traffic situations in the real world, which must be different from
each other.
The cars will be equipped with a number of sensors that will
record the entire reactions of drivers toward traffic jams, closed roads and
bad weather. The program will run for about three years, with the support of
one of the largest automotive suppliers, Bosch.
According to JLR, with the realization of this mission,
consumers will feel more confident with the automatic steering technology.
Until this moment there are still a lot of controversies regarding to the
automatic steering technology; some people feel optimistic with the development
of this technology, while others feel hesitant to entrust their lives to the
automatic steering system.
At the same time, the data will also be used to develop the
standards of self-driving car insurance in the future, to anticipate the
likelihood of accidents.
