The use of action camera is always associated with outdoor
activities, but even the most sophisticated models have one big drawback: the
battery limitation. Interestingly, the Activeon team finds a smart solution to
overcome this problem, and then integrates it into the latest product.
The result is a super-unique device. Activeon introduces the
Solar X, an action camera that's able to record 4K video and takes energy from
the sun. The premise is promising, but the use of solar power would trigger a
question about how effective this method. According to the developer, the
design of Solar X makes this action camera functional and flexible.
Activeon Solar X has a tiny square shape; there is a lens
module on the front side, and 2-inch build-in touch screen behind it. Combined
with UI, users can access all the camera functions. It is equipped with Wi-Fi
so you can connect it to your iOS or Android devices. The content can also be
uploaded to the Activeon Cloud service.
The component that makes Solar X special is the X Station
casing. It serves as a charging unit and extra battery, has a pair of solar
cell on both sides. To begin to recharge, users just need to open the panel.
The X Station is also supported by Burst Speed Charging technology. With it,
the Solar X battery can be charged to 70 percent just within half an hour (it
takes an hour for full battery).
Solar X brings 1.100mAh battery, keeps it active for two
hours, plus four hours in the X Station. Solar X utilizes a 16-megapixel CMOS
sensor, that's combined with ultra-wide angle lens 7-element f / 2.4,
high-precision. There is 4K 2160p recording capability at 15fps and burst shot
feature. This action camera is powered by digital image stabilization, various
filters / color effects, and settings flexibility (ranging from ISO, white
balance, up to exposure). Live view can also be accessed via a smartphone app.
Activeon wil launch the Solar X to the market in March 2016.
This action camera will be compatible to nearly 40 types of accessories from
the manufacturer; including eight types of mounting, seven grip, selfie stick,
strap, goggles, and Wi-Fi remote. Solar X is offered at US $ 450.
