There are many types of mouse, but if we classify it based
on its shape, there are terms that we usually hear: ambidextrous and ergonomic.
The ambidextrous type is designed in order to feel
comfortable to be used by both left and right hands because of its symmetrical
shape. On the other hand, the ergonomic type is intended specifically for right
or left hand use only. This kind of mouse is formed asymmetrical; it has a
special indentation on one side as the place of thumb. As a result, this mouse
can feel more comfortable than the ambidextrous type.
Unfortunately, there are only few ergonomic mouse choices that
are designed for left-handed users, the gaming mouse producers such as Razer
and Steelseries usually only focus on the right hand users.
A peripherals manufacturer from Germany, Roccat, has a
different view. Roccat believes that the right design can accommodate the needs
of right and left hand users equally. The solution is not ambidextrous mouse,
but a new type called superdextrous.
Named Roccat Kiro, this superdextrous mouse basically has a
modular design. Users can remove or install a number of components to get the
most appropriate configuration. In this case, the removable parts are the left
and right panels.
By default, Roccat Kiro comes in the form of ambidextrous,
complete with a pair of extra buttons on each side. However, users can also
remove the left or right panels, and immediately get a good ergonomic mouse for
left or right hand - without involving a screwdriver at all. As a bonus, the
surface has been coated with a sweat resistant material.
Roccat Kiro is powered by Pro-Optic R2 2,000 dpi sensor. Its
agility can be increased up to 4,000 dpi in Overdrive mode. And of course to
follow the trend, the lights can be adjusted with 16.8 million color options.
Roccat Kiro is priced at $ 55 only, it's quite affordable if
seen from the full customization options offered.
