Microsoft Band 2 comes with a new design and curved screen

Microsoft acts so all out by introducing its latest three smartphones and two Surface devices, and at the same time, this company also reveals the presence of Microsoft Band 2.

Looks different from the first generation, the AMOLED screen of Microsoft Band 2 is now slightly wider, with a resolution of 320 x 128 pixels and coated by Gorilla Glass 3. It has a curved design following the shape of the wrist, making it much more comfortable to wear. This screen section also doesn't have corner, its width is exactly the same as the connecting strap.

Microsoft explains that the change of design is heavily influenced by the inputs of Microsoft Band first-generation's users. Overall, Microsoft Band 2 has a design that's much more interesting. Unfortunately, Microsoft Band 2 is not intended to be used for swimming or any activity that would make it submerged in the water; it's just resistant to splashes, such as rain or when washing hands.

In total there are 11 different sensors inside the Microsoft Band 2, ranging from heart rate sensor, ultraviolet sensor, GPS, up to barometer. The presence of barometer allows the Microsoft Band 2 to measure the level of height, or even calculate how many stairs you have stepped over.

Microsoft Band 2 can also monitor various activities, including the user's sleep pattern. This smartband will also forward the notification and it's still accompanied by a virtual assistant Cortana, which means that user can give a reply or create a reminder by using voice commands. The battery itself is claimed can last up to two days of use, and only requires a charging time of 1.5 hours.

But what makes it more interesting is the software used. The companion application called Microsoft Health is available for almost all platforms: Android, iOS, and of course Windows - you can even access the collected evaluation data via browser. The device is also compatible with other fitness applications such as MyFitnessPal, RunKeeper, Strava, and so forth.

Microsoft Band 2 will be available starting on October 30 for $ 249.
