On the sidelines of the introduction of Lumia 950, Lumia 950
XL and Lumia 550, Microsoft also introduces an adapter device named Display Dock that allows users to use the Lumia smartphone just like using a desktop PC.
Yes, Display Dock is able to change the Windows 10 Mobile
smartphone into a PC, complete with the functions of keyboard, mouse and
monitor. This technology can be applied thanks to a feature in Windows 10
called Continuum. This adapter has three main ports, each of which is aimed for
USB type C, DisplayPort and HDMI. There is also a slot for a USB device.
These ports allow the other devices such as keyboard, mouse,
and monitor to be connected simultaneously, in which the role of CPU will be
done by the Windows 10 Mobile smartphone. It also functions as a channel to
charge the device.
Once connected, the smartphone's display will be forwarded
to the monitor with a refresh rate at 60fps. From there user can do office
tasks by using Office documents such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint just like
using a desktop computer. User can also perform minor tasks such as receiving
and writing emails.
In other side, the connected smartphone can still function
properly, such as receiving short messages, chat messages, and receive or make
calls.
Display Dock can produce video with Full HD resolution, 1920
x 1080 pixels. Its weight is only 230 grams, makes the Display Dock easy to
carry, allowing access to the works without time and place limitations.
