Just like Philips, GE is not a new player in the power tools
segment, especially the lighting components. But when Philips has produced
smart bulbs for quite long, GE hasn't shown a sign to produce smart light bulbs.
But GE recently gives a surprise by introducing a pair of
smart bulbs. Named GE C-Sleep and C-Life, both of them will be marketed through
e-commerce platform C by GE (cbyge.com) which is also the debut for GE.
As debutant products, GE C-Sleep and C-Life don't want to
impose a multitude of mediocre quality features. Instead, GE wants to focus on
fewer features, but the results can be maximized, and ultimately consumers will
feel satisfied.
Simplicity becomes a key element that's brought by these duo
smart bulbs. So simple, C-Sleep and C-Life choose to utilize Bluetooth
connectivity than Wi-Fi. This step is selected so that the users can directly
control the lighting in a room via smartphone without having to install special
hub first.
As the name implies, the C-Sleep is specifically designed to
be placed in the bedroom. It comes with features that can recognize a circadian
rhythm. Basically, the lighting will change to adjust to the circumstances at
the time.
At night, the C-Sleep will emit soft and warm lights; it can
increase the production of the melatonin hormone in the body so you can sleep
quicker. Then in the morning, the C-Sleep will emit bright light to help reduce
the production of melatonin so that you can awake and feel energetic.
On the other hand, C-Life is much simpler. The light beam is
only in one 'color', but the brightness level still can be set, or even
scheduled to turn on or off automatically. Although this smart bulb relies on
Bluetooth, but users are still able to classify some of the bulbs at once to be
controlled simultaneously.
The beginning of 2016 is the marketing schedule of GE C-Sleep and C-Life. The C-Sleep is valued at $ 25, while the C-Life is offered
at $ 15. Later GE will also offer a Starter Pack bundle which contains 2 bulbs
of C-Sleep and 2 bulbs of C-Life for $ 50. Each lamp is estimated to be lit up
to 20 years - based on 3 hours of use per day.
