Gorilla Glass may resistant to scratches of a key or a
knife, but in fact, almost all smartphone screens available today certainly
will crack when they fall on hard surfaces. In fact, according to the survey of
Motorola, every two seconds someone dropped his/her smartphone, and could be
summed that approximately 50 percent of smartphone users globally have ever
experienced cracked screen.
So what is the solution? The most common way is to use the
tempered glass. But this solution will clearly add the thickness of smartphone
and 'destroy' the smartphone's elegant look. Motorola assumes that the right
solution is to make it from scratch, not adds the layer to a smartphone.
Therefore, Motorola reveals Moto X Force. Motorola claims
that this is the world's first smartphone with a screen that's ready to
challenge gravity; it won't crack even after falling with the screen facing
down.
The secret lies in Moto ShatterShield technology that
complements this smartphone. This technology involves five screen layers that
can dampen the vibration so that the screen won't crack. Starting from the
aluminum chassis in the bottom, then there is a 5.4-inch Quad HD (2,560 x
1,440) AMOLED panel, and outermost is a material that's almost the same with
the tempered glass.
Moto X Force is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset
with 2 GHz octa-core processor, Adreno 430 GPU, 3GB RAM, 32/64 GB internal
memory, and also a microSD slot (up to 2 TB). The battery is quite large, 3,760mAh,
can survive for about 48 hours of normal use and supports ultra-fast charging
and wireless charging.
In the camera sector, Moto X Force brings the optical
components that are the same with the Moto X Style, including the 21 megapixel
sensor and f/2.0 lens, and then there is a 5 megapixel selfie camera in the
front that's accompanied by a LED flash. All of them are packaged in a fairly
compact body, with the thickest point of 9.2 mm and weighs 169 grams.
In the promotional video you can see 3 smartphones were
dropped from the same height level. The screens of two first smartphones (iPhone
6S and Samsung Galaxy S6) cracked when the smartphones touched the floor, while
Moto X Force remains smooth despite the noise of impact was quite loud.
Unfortunately, so far there is no information about the
price of Moto X Force. Motorola promises that this smartphone will visit the
Asia Pacific market starting in November.
