DJI introduces its first handheld 4K camera: DJI Osmo

DJI Osmo

DJI name may always be synonymous with drones, but who would have thought that this Chinese manufacturer is going to become a serious player in the photography and videography arena. Recently, DJI releases its first handheld 4K camera named DJI Osmo, which is intended for handheld use, without involving any drone.

DJI Osmo is basically a combination of an action camera and a monopod. However, this monopod is not just an ordinary stick, but rather serves as a joystick to manage the movement of the camera that's attached above the 3-axis gimbal. As a result, the video will remain stable even if you are holding the camera while running fast.

DJI Osmo camera is packing 1/2.3 inch sensor and 94-degree viewing angle lens. This camera can take pictures in a resolution of 12 megapixels, and record 4K video with cinematic effects. In addition, the slow-motion recording option is also embedded, allowing user to record in resolution of 1080p 120 fps.

DJI Osmo is not equipped with a screen, so user's smartphone will serve as the camera's viewfinder when it’s paired to DJI Osmo. From there user can utilize DJI Go application to adjust the camera settings, starting from the ISO until the shutter speed. User can even turn the camera to the left-right-up-down simply by rubbing the smartphone screen.

DJI Osmo doesn't only attract consumers in general, the professionals will also be attracted to this camera because of its modular concept, where the customers can buy only the monopod, and then tether the DJI Zenmuse X5 mirrorless camera to the top of the gimbal. DJI Osmo also features a 3.5 mm audio jack so the quality of the recorded sound can be monitored with detailing.
