In September 2015, there are more than 30 electric-powered
vehicles that have been launched. There is a possibility that this number will
continue to rise, especially after some manufacturers start to try this
segment, such as Porsche until Youxia Motors from China. However, the
competition could be more interesting because a Taiwanese company also joins
with this competition.
Introduced as Thunder Power Sedan, this car got many
attentions in the Frankfurt Motor Show 2015. The Thunder Power itself started
business as a manufacturer of electrical tools since 1987. This vehicle was
formulated to compete with one of the popular names in the electric cars
segment, Tesla Model S.
The producer explains that Thunder Power's vision is to
create an electric vehicle with beautiful design, environmentally friendly, but
still keeps a superior performance. To meet these aspects, the developer forms
the R&D team near Milan, embracing the former Technical Director of Bugatti
Veyron, Dr. Peter Tutzer, and also Franz Schulte, an automotive expert from
Germany who started his career with Porsche.
Thunder Power is a unique electric vehicle, it's presenting
Italian design outside and German mechanical engineering inside. The Thunder
Power Sedan is presented in two types: the standard version and racing version.
The standard version carries aerodynamic appearance with minimal angle. Its
hood curved inward, the front and rear lights look like an asymmetric
boomerang, and the front grille is made circular.
You are welcome to choose the configuration of 230kW or
320kW, with 450hp power. The vehicle is driven with the rear-wheels that are
able to carry the car across a distance of over 650 kilometers on a single
charge, or 300 kilometers with a recharge for 30 minutes. The 320kW engine
variant is claimed can reach 100 km per hour in less than 5 seconds, and
reaches a maximum speed of 250 km per hour. Thunder Car is claimed to be free
of emissions.
Thunder Power Sedan draft is produced by the Zagato studio
which also participated in the work of Bugatti, Aston Martin and Alfa Romeo.
However the racing variant of the Thunder Power Sedan is more like the Nissan
370Z, especially with the protruding bumper and rear wing. The engine is a bit
different, powered by 1,000 horsepower motors.
According to the plan Thunder Power Sedan will be released
in Europe in 2017, followed in China a year later. The price is expected to be
in the range of US $ 63,000.
