NeoKylin, Chinese operating system which looks like Windows XP

NeoKylin, Chinese operating system

The Chinese government's desire to be fully free from Microsoft's products seems really serious, recently there is Chinese operating system called NeoKylin which is getting popular and widely adopted as an alternative to Windows.

A video reveals the manifestation of the NeoKylin operating system. As you can see, although it's polished with different colors, but overall Neokylin has a similar interface with the Windows XP. Starting from the start menu, taskbar, desktop, folder icon, recycle bin and also the login layout, all of them are very similar to Windows XP. This is done probably because the Chinese government doesn't want to create confusion for the staff. Keep in mind, after Windows 8 was blocked, practically only Windows XP that may still be used by government agencies, though Microsoft has stopped the support for Windows XP update.

Interestingly, NeoKylin also provides Office software which becomes the alternative of Word, Excel and Powerpoint but again with the interface and features that are very similar to the Microsoft Office software. It's said that the application is modified from one of versions of OpenOffice.

Regardless of what is presented, the adoption of NeoKylin has now come to a very serious stage, in which the computer manufacturer Dell even has begun shipping devices with NeoKylin installed as the default OS. The percentage is not small, according to TheVerge, 40% of Dell computers that will be sold in China have adopted NeoKylin OS, such as the Dell Latitude, Dell OptiPlex, and Dell Precision.

It's not a secret anymore if China is not a country that's friendly to the products and services that are made by western world. You certainly still remember when Windows 8 was blocked by the Chinese government, first they argued because it was too expensive. But later the real reason was revealed, i.e. for safety factor. The Chinese Government considered that Windows 8 could be used as a spying tool that could potentially threaten their security. It also happens to Google where till this moment Google still gets difficulty to penetrate the bureaucracy of country that's dominated by Xiaomi.
