Using light bulb that can be controlled via smartphone is
one of the most ideal first steps to 'try' the sophistication of smart home.
But the problem is, not everyone is willing to spend $ 200 just for buying a
smart bulb starter kit.
Philips seems to understand about this problem, so it offers
an interesting option that can be accepted by public at large scale. Named
Philips Hue Wireless Dimming Kit, it consists of a Philips Hue Lux bulb (that
can't change color) and a switch/remote, this package is offered at a price of
$ 40 only.
Yes, this smart bulb is accompanied with a switch/remote. In
other words, it can't be controlled via smartphone such as Philips Hue starter
kit that's offered at expensive price. However, it still promises
sophistication that can't be presented by ordinary light bulb and switch.
After installing the bulbs, you only need to attach the
switch to the wall, without the need to make a special hole as its 'home'. This
switch brings a pair of On/Off buttons, and also a pair of other keys to set
the dark and bright of the light. The four buttons can also be separated from
the base plate, becomes a mini remote control for all smart bulbs you have installed.
You can combine up to ten Philips Hue Lux bulbs into a
system that's controlled simultaneously by the switch/remote. But it also means
that you need to add extra money $ 20 per bulb.
If you don't mind to spend more money, you can hook the
Philips Hue Bridge which will connect the Philips Hue Wireless Dimming Kit to
the home Wi-Fi network. This system will instantly transform into Philips Hue
system where there is a control option via smartphone and IFTTT compatibility.
