The trend of selfie is undeniable strengthens the position
of smartphone camera as the flagship camera for most of modern people. Digital
camera, especially a pocket camera that used to accompany us while on vacation,
is getting abandoned by many people.
In the mid of selfie popularity, the selfie stick or known
as monopod is also becoming a mandatory accessory for smartphones owners, but
is it only smartphones that can be paired with the selfie stick?
Nikon has a different opinion; they have just launched a
selfie stick for their pocket camera products. Nikon N-MP001 (Selfie Stick) is
compatible with a number of Nikon Coolpix line, including L32, AW130, S33,
S3700, S6900, S7000, S9900 and Nikon mirrorless camera 1 J5 that has just
announced.
Nikon N-MP001 (Selfie Stick) has a physical length of 18.5
cm. The body can be pulled up to 72.5 cm long. Its weight is 186 grams, and it's
able to sustain a pocket camera with a maximum weight of 397 grams.
At the bottom, there is a grip made from foam to strengthen
your grip. There's also a strap accompanies this accessory to be easily brought
by its users.
Unlike the general smartphone selfie stick that's clamping
the device, the Nikon selfie stick is paired on tripod socket of the camera.
The operation is relying on a timer, not with a Bluetooth-based remote control
as it is commonly included in the most of selfie stick packages.
Can Nikon N-MP001 (Selfie Stick) overcome the decline
sales of pocket cameras? Can this accessory gain back the consumer interest
toward pocket camera in the era that's dominated by smartphones? Or actually
this is just a comeback of monopod that may be a bit forgotten? Well, let's see
its progress in the future.
