WhatsApp, the popular instant messaging application which is
also owned by Facebook has just released a major announcement that can make the
desktop users smile happily. WhatsApp has just officially released the desktop
application for Windows 8 or above, and also the OS X version 10.9 or newer.
Since the beginning of 2015, the desktop users could already
enjoy the WhatsApp conversation via a laptop or personal computer. But at that
time they were only able to use the browser as the door access, it was not an
independent application which didn't need the help of other application.
Just like the WhatsApp web, the desktop applications will
also synchronize an existing conversation on the mobile device. So the chat
which is done in mobile will not be different from the conversation in the
desktop window.
To be able to use this desktop application, users are
required to scan the QR code through the mobile application. Once done, all the
conversation will be displayed on the desktop application, and then users may
continue the conversation from there.
Rumors about the presence of the WhatsApp desktop version
had been circulated since early May. Apparently it didn't take too long for
WhatsApp to formally present it to the public. In April, WhatsApp released the
end-to-end encryption feature for all mobile platforms, and perhaps WhatsApp
will also bring similar feature to the desktop platform.
