Do you still remember with the
Project Jacquard? In the Google I/O event last year, Google announced its
collaboration with Levi's in creating smart fabric, an advanced fabric that can
be used to navigate the smartphone or tablet.
One year after that, Google and Levi's are almost ready to
commercialize the Project Jacquard in the form of a smart denim jacket that's
designed specifically for commuters, especially those who want to keep in shape
by cycling everywhere.
Jacquard sophisticated fabric is transformed to be a stylish
trucker jacket which is one of the iconic products from Levi's. At first glance
this jacket doesn't look different from other jeans jackets in general, but the
secret is stored on the wrist.
In the video we can see that the user can access a wide
range of smartphone functions with this sophisticated jacket. Starting from
accessing the navigation guidance, control the music, and accept or reject the
call, everything can be done by touching or rubbing a button at the wrist.
This kind of interaction with smartphone is ideal for
cyclists, because user can stay focused into the street, but at the same time
he can access the smartphone easily.
So when exactly this smart jacket will be available in the
market? According to an official statement of Levi's, this jacket will be
available from the spring of 2017, but before that, they will run the beta
testing program on next fall.
