3D Touch is one of the security features embedded by Apple
on the iPhone 6S. With this feature the smartphone is capable of measuring the
intensity of touch - can distinguish between normal or strong tap pressure on
the screen, it's claimed to be a big leap in the presentation of touchscreen.
Interestingly, there's news that Microsoft is making a similar technology but
more sophisticated. .
Through its official blog, Microsoft introduces a technology
called Pre-Touch Sensing for Mobile Interaction. Although the development is
still in the area of touchscreened handset, but the Pre-Touch doesn't need a
touch. The method is similar to Samsung's Air View, but Microsoft is
very focused on detail and accuracy. As a result, you can navigate the
smartphone's content without touching it, makes the procedure becomes more
efficient.
Pre-Touch gives the ability to the smartphone to detect the
position of the finger across the screen including when you hold it. It can
adapt to the way of users interact with the handset. For example, when you're
watching a video, there is no disturbing UI. The interface will come out when
the finger is approaching, and as always, you can pause or move the slider.
The Pre-Touch's capability center lies in self-capacitive
touchscreen component. Previously, the hands-free control technique typically
relied on the front camera or ultrasonic, but Microsoft's version fully utilizes
the part of screen. The Pre-Touch improves the accuracy and flexibility of
operation via gesture, and also helps the content edit collaboration field.
Microsoft also modifies the Pre-Touch in order to know how
users use the device. If by chance you're holding it in the right hand and
trying to access the content (for example with thumb), UI will be displayed in
an easily accessible area, it also applies for the left hand. With Pre-Touch,
the smartphone will understand your intention even before touch it.
Microsoft hasn't revealed the exact time when the Pre-Touch
will be presented in consumer products. In the demo session, Microsoft seems to
wear a prototype device. Hopefully this feature will be implemented soon by the
handset manufacturers.
