Translating texts from a variety of different languages on
Android devices now becomes much easier. The reason is because Google has just
released the latest version of the Translate for Android feature called Tap to
Translate, a new feature that lets you to translate text anywhere, in any
application without having to switch application.
Barak Turovsky as Translate Product Lead in his writings
explained that millions of users are having difficulty and spent a lot of time
when they need to copy text from Google Translate into other applications. Now,
users can simply mark the text in the chat window of instant messaging app,
blog comments, lyrics in a browser, or social networking status, then later
Google Translate icon will appear and is ready to be used without having to
switch application.
This new feature can work for 103 languages that are
supported by Google Translate, it supports Android 4.2 Jelly Bean devices or
newer.
As for the iOS, Google eventually provides support for
offline translation as first applied to Android. Better late than not at all,
let alone Google has optimized the application so that it only burdens the
device about 25MB. However, for now it only supports 52 languages. Google has
promised to extend the support to other languages.
In addition, Google also brings Word Lens support for the
Chinese language. So Word Lens now supports 29 different languages.
