Once again Acer Predator shows off its existence in this
year. Acer has just introduced another variant of Predator 17 in an event at
New York City. Acer calls it Predator 17 X, a notebook with Nvidia VR Ready
certification.
In appearance, the Predator 17 X is not much different from
its brothers. This device also brings the design style of spacecraft; it's
dominated with black color and red accents. The colorful LED lights in its
full-size keyboard can be customized, and users will also get a macro button.
For its 17.3-inch screen, the consumers can choose a variant of full-HD
resolution or 4K panel, all supported by Nvidia G-Sync.
The components that allow the Predator 17 X to handle gaming
at ultra-HD and virtual reality headset are the GeForce GTX 980 Desktop
Graphics Card and Intel Core i7-6820HK processor. The hardware is also
supported by DDR4-2133 memory and SSD RAID 0 storage. To maximize the heat
dissipation when gaming and overclocking (via PredatorSense), the Predator 17 X
is equipped with triple-fan cooling system. With a weight of 4.5kg, the
Predator 17 X is more suitable as a desktop replacement.
Discussing about VR experience in high-end gaming device,
usually we would be reminded of Vive or Rift. Although Predator 17 X won't have
difficulty to serve both of them, but Acer has also decided to support the
development of Open Source Virtual Reality (OSVR) that's pioneered by Razer. Its
Hacker Development Kit is indeed not as neat as the Oculus headset or HTC, but at
this moment OSVR is the most affordable option for PC gamers.
According to the plan, Predator 17 X will go on sale starts
on July in the United States, at a price of US $ 2,800.
