To explore the capabilities of the
artificial intelligence (AI) system in understanding the conversation
naturally, Microsoft Technology and Research team creates a chatbot named Tay.
Tay is not just any chatbot, because it is designed to speak just like a
teenager.
Broadly speaking, Tay is targeted
for users at aged of 18 to 24 years because the vocabulary variations can be a
bit difficult to be understood by older users. As expected, it's also capable
of conversation that's dominated by emoji.
According to Microsoft, the more
you invite Tay for chatting, the smarter it will be in giving a reply. This is
because Tay will save some data from its interlocutor which includes nickname,
gender, favorite foods, area code and also relationship status. These data are
intended to make the reply can be personalized with the style and character of
each interlocutor.

If seen from the tweet of Tay on
Twitter, it can be seen that its speaking style is similar to a teenager who
used to interact through the virtual world. It can even send various GIF or
meme to the interlocutor.
The topic of conversation with Tay
can be quite extensive, but Microsoft has provided initial guidance if you are
confused about what to say to Tay.If you're tired of waiting for someone, you
can invite Tay for joking or ask about your horoscope. Tay is also able to
leave comments on each photo you send to it.
To be able to converse with Tay,
you can mention @TayandYou on Twitter or send DM to Tay. If you are using Kik
Messenger or GroupMe, you can add Tay as a contact.
