Do you still remember when you were used to buy the
McDonald's Happy Meal package because there is an action figure gift such as
Ronald, Hamburglar, Grimace, etc. Well, now times have changed. Happy Meal
package now gives virtual reality headset as a gift for its buyers, at least
that what's being experienced by children in Sweden.
McD has recently launched Happy Goggles campaign in Sweden.
The name is taken because the VR headset gift is not stored inside the package,
but the Happy Meal box itself can be transformed into a VR headset.
This special Happy Meal box can be cut and folded to form a
VR headset just like the Google Cardboard. Furthermore, children can slip a
pair of lenses included in the package, then a smartphone, and voila, they can
explore the virtual world.
McD also includes a VR-based ski sports game entitled Slope
Stars that can be downloaded on smartphone. Why skiing? This campaign is
created to celebrate the Sportlov winter holidays, where the Swedish people
usually spend a lot of time for skiing.
But McDonald's is not the only non-tech brands that enliven the virtual reality trend. Coca-Cola recently also reveals a unique new packaging design. The packaging is unique because it can be folded into a VR headset, again embracing the concept of Google Cardboard.
The new packaging of Coca-Cola hasn't launched into market
yet, but Coca-Cola looks quite serious in designing it. It can be seen from
three different designs that ultimately are aiming to provide a virtual reality
experience for consumers.
