Although in theory the Gear VR can run the contents of
Google Cardboard, but in practice it is not easy because Gear VR will always
take you to the application portal of Oculus Store. If you want to open the
Cardboard application while in Gear VR, so far the solution is by rooting or by
not plugging the phone into the Gear VR's USB.
But now there is another easier alternative, named Cardboard
Enabler for Gear VR, this app allows your phone to run Google Cardboard's
contents while in the Gear VR without the need for rooting the phone at all.
The way it works is simple: open the Cardboard Enabler app
and select Google Cardboard icon and the application will turn off the Gear VR
Service. Next, you can open the Cardboard app and slip the phone into the Gear
VR. If you want to re-access the Gear VR app, you just need to select its icon
in the Cardboard Enabler.
Almost all of Google Cardboard's contents are compatible
with the touchpad of Gear VR, so you also have additional control input.
Cardboard Enabler also offers the option to turn off the motion blur feature
for those who often feel nauseous after enjoying the VR contents too long.
Cardboard Enabler is ideal for the Gear VR users who are
already bored with the available contents, and want to enjoy the various
contents of Google Cardboard without having to buy a separate headset. The
application can be obtained directly from Google Play.
