Canon has just launched two new compact cameras that are
categorized into the PowerShot line: G7 X Mark II and SX720 HS. Both are
intended for general users and also as a backup camera for professional
photographers.
Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark II
Seeing its name, it's obvious that this camera is the
successor of the G7 X which was released in 2014. It doesn't have many physical
changes, but the addition of a hand grip can certainly improve the overall
ergonomics of this camera.
G7X Mark II still retains the title of a premium compact
camera that's carried by its predecessor thanks to the 1-inch CMOS sensor at
resolution of 20.1 megapixels. The size of this sensor is much bigger than the
sensor of other pocket cameras, which is able to produce a clearer and detail
pictures in low light conditions.
This sensor is accompanied by a brand-new DIGIC 7 processor
which promises faster performance, particularly in terms of autofocus tracking on
a moving subject and the shooting speed in RAW format at 8 fps. Its sensitivity
to light is quite high in the number of ISO 12800 (can be raised up to 25 600),
and the video can be recorded in a maximum resolution of 1080p 60 fps.
Complementing all of the features is the 24 - 100 mm f / 1.8
- 2.8 lens that's equipped with image stabilization system. This lens also
promises a photo with quality bokeh (the way the lens renders out-of-focus
points of light) thanks to the use of nine aperture blades. Furthermore, there
is 3 inch touch screen that can be used for selfie, and NFC and Wi-Fi connectivity
for easy transfer of photos and videos to a mobile device. Canon PowerShot G7 X
Mark II will be marketed from May 2016 at a price of $ 700.
Canon PowerShot SX720 HS
The successor to the SX710 HS is still positioned as the superzoom
camera with compact size. This camera relies on
20.3 megapixel CMOS sensor and DIGIC 6 as the image processing, as well
as providing the ability to record video in 1080p 60 fps.
But the interesting feature of the SX720 HS is a new lens
with 24-960 mm zoom range, or 40x optical zoom, Canon also embeds image
stabilization system on this lens.
Just as G7X Mark II, this camera is also equipped with NFC
and Wi-Fi connectivity. The rear panel is dominated by a 3-inch LCD -
unfortunately it's not a touch screen and can't be tilted. The sales of Canon
PowerShot SX720 HS will start at next March with a price of $ 380.
