DJI recently gives surprising news, this Chinese drone
manufacturer has acquired minority stake in Hasselblad - although only a small
part of it, but DJI now occupies the Hasselblad's Board of Directors. As
information, Hasselblad itself is a Swedish company that's known for its
medium-format cameras.
Why Hasselblad? The reason is because this company has a lot
of experience in the aerial photography field where the Hasselblad's cameras
have been used in a number of NASA missions, including the Apollo program that
had landed human for the first time on Moon.
As we know, aerial photography is a field where many DJI
drones play an important role. DJI itself also had introduced its own camera, therefore
can be understood if DJI is keen to share its technical expertise together with
Hasselblad to enhance the aerial photography industry.
The acquisition doesn't mean that the Hasselblad brand will disappear
or merged with the DJI. Both will still operate independently, and Hasselblad
will still continue to produce cameras and other equipments at its headquarter
in Sweden.
According to DJI CEO, Frank Wang, Hasselblad and DJI have
same passion for providing the best imaging technology for the creative people,
making the two companies willing to combine their expertise in innovating.
Therefore, it is possible that in the future DJI will release drones for
professionals segment that have been equipped with Hasselblad's cameras.
