Sonos should be proud because its innovation in multi-room
category has managed to make other audio devices manufacturers finally follow
its footsteps. Even Yamaha doesn't hesitate to reveal the presence of its own
multi-room system.
The basic principle of Yamaha MusicCast is actually still
the same, where users can play music on several speakers that are placed in a
number of rooms. All of this can be arranged through an application on a
smartphone or tablet that serves as the control center.
However, the uniqueness of MusicCast is the sources of
contents can be vary, ranging from vinyl, CD, television broadcasts, and the
music streaming service of course - with the notes that you have the latest
generation of Yamaha A/V receiver, if not ... well, you can still enjoy the
MusicCast just like the other multi-room systems, relying on contents from
smartphone, tablet or laptop.
One of MusicCast products that have been released is WX-030,
aka MusicCast Wireless Speaker. It is the first member of the MusicCast line
which will consist of approximately 20 devices by the end of the year. WX-030
itself is actually a standard wireless speaker that brings Bluetooth and Wi-Fi
connectivity, plus Ethernet port feature if you need to connect it directly to
the router.
The performance of WX-030 in sound reproduction is supported
by the mix of tweeter, woofer and a large passive radiator which all of them
are packaged in an elegant form. This speaker can play hi-res 24-bit/192kHz
audio file which has become the standard of Yamaha MusicCast line.
Currently Yamaha WX-030 has been marketed for $ 250, and
comes in black or white colors; the companion application is available for
Android and iOS.
