Skype Translator

Do you still remember with the Skype Translator? This is a new feature of Skype that's able to translate the conversation into different languages according to users’ preferences. When it was introduced last year, Skype Translator was still a preview for limited users. The good news is now this feature can be used by public.

Described by Microsoft that Skype Translator preview phase plays an important role in the development of this new tool. The inputs from testers help them to pack a tool in order to fit with the needs of the majority of Skype users. As a result, Skype Translator has now been integrated into the Skype application of Windows version.

In the voice mode, Skype Translator supports six languages: English, French, German, Italian, Mandarin and Spanish. As for the text mode, it has supported 50 languages.

Skype Translator is designed with smart technology that's able to learn the patterns and habits of its users, so this feature will be smarter if you use it more often.

The preview phase also plays important role in learning the Skype Translator feature. In this phase Microsoft did many experiments, one of which is by involving the Peterson School in Mexico and Stafford Elementary School in Tacoma, United States.

Two students from both schools were asked to communicate via Skype using their native language. The result, with the help of Skype Translator, the Peterson School student who spoke Spanish could understand the student of Stafford Elementary School who spoke English, and vice versa.

This new feature is in the process of integration to the Skype application for Windows, the update will be released to all users gradually in a few weeks.
