Since replacing the tube TVs, the flat-screen TVs are
getting thinner, however the philosophy of "the thinner the better"
is not found in this latest Samsung TV. In designing this product, Samsung
invites two renowned French designers, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec. They are
assigned to design a TV that can serve as furniture rather than an electronic
device that can be attached on the wall, so from there Samsung Serif TV is
created.
The name of Serif TV refers to its form when it's seen from
the side; like the capital letter of "I" in the serif font - or
similar to Instapaper app logo. The top and bottom parts of this TV are widened
so that Serif TV can be placed on any flat surfaces, or you can put a remote or
photo frames above it.
The beauty of Serif TV's design is reinforced with the woven
panel on the back that will cover all ports and cables that are embedded on the
TV. Completing the design, there are four legs that can be mounted on the
bottom, making it look like classic TV in 50s to 60s.
Samsung itself hasn't officially revealed the Serif TV's
detailed specification, but it is expected that Serif TV will consist of three
variants: 1) variant 40 inch with a resolution of 4K, 2) variant 32 inch with a
resolution of 1080p and 3) variant 24 inch with a resolution of 720p. All of
them bring wireless connectivity such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, as well as a
unique interface that resembles to a curtain.
Samsung Serif TV is scheduled to be available in the several
European countries starting on 2 Nov. It is presented in three different colors
(white, blue and red) - there is no information about its availability in other
countries. The price is not announced yet, but the most expensive variant is
estimated to reach £ 1,200.
