Ustwo, the developer behind the success of Monument Valley
game expresses its interest to develop the virtual reality (VR) game. Well, not
just interested, this developer has worked hard since October of last year to
create a VR game named Land's End.
This game is not just the VR version of Monument Valley.
Ustwo admits that previously the team tried to make the VR version of this game
by putting the VR camera into Monument Valley. However, because the 3D space in
VR was completely different, as a result this method was not successful. The
visual illusion that's commonly found in Monument Valley was 'broken' because
users could control the direction of the sights.
For that, the team needs a different approach. Peter
Pashley, Technical Director of Ustwo, likens the working on Monument Valley is
like painting, while working on the Land's End is like sculpting. If in the
Monument Valley the developer who holds control over what can be seen, now at
the Land's End the users are free to explore the 3D world.
In the visual terms, the Land's End maintains a minimalist
style which also makes Monument Valley is so loved. At the same time, Land's
End is also carrying mysterious elements in its world; not surprising because
the gameplay is also in the form of puzzle just like Monument Valley.
In addition to graphics, Monument Valley is also famous for
the intuitive control and easy to understand quickly. Similarly with the Land's
End where the users don't need a separate controller at all. To move to a
point, users only need to turn their sights to the point for a few seconds.
To open a door, users must observe a number of objects in
the correct order. In some level, the users' sights even feel like telekinesis
ability ala X-Men, only by seeing something they can move objects from one
point to another. Land's End will be available exclusively for Samsung Gear VR
on 30 October.
