Roomba 980 is the smartest cleaning robot from iRobot

Roomba 980

In the world of 'automated home cleaning system', iRobot is not a new name. This company has released several types of home cleaning robots that are made for different purposes such as vacuum cleaning, floor scrubbing, mopping, and others. However, September 16 was an important moment for the iRobot team, marking its readiness to enter the smart home realm by introducing the Roomba 980.

Refining the previous variants, the Roomba 980 is claimed to be the smartest and the best cleaning robot from iRobot. It's the first type of Roomba that carries adaptive navigation technology with visual detection feature. The robot is also supported by cloud application control system, not to mention the coverage area and also its capabilities for cleaning the house.

Although it has a compact size, almost the same as the other robotic vacuum cleaners, but Roomba 980 has superior features. You only need to connect it to Wi-Fi network via Android or iOS app. The software will instruct the Roomba 980 to clean the house when you are working or when there is no one in the house. Of course you can customize the schedule, or ask the Roomba 980 to clean a particular zone for several times.

While working, Roomba 980 will map out the space around it, tracking the location, and then studying whether the cleaning process has been completed or not. This capability is based on vSLAM technology or visual simultaneous localization and mapping - first time applied in consumer electronics products. It also uses an efficient technique, the robot moves in parallel line that's guided by sensor; it can adjust itself when there's a barrier in front of it. Once done, or if the battery is running out, it will return to the Home Base.

Christian Cerda, the General Manager of iRobot explains that to be effective, a vacuum cleaner robot can’t rely only on one feature. The producer has to think of many aspects, such as the machine performance, navigation, adaptability, and the ability to clean the dirty places that are difficult to reach.

Roomba 980 has been marketed in the United States and Canada, and it's planned to be available soon in Japan and European countries in the fourth quarter of 2015. It's sold at the price of $ 900.
