Last week it was rumored that Samsung wanted to surprise
visitors of IFA 2015 with a jumbo tablet which allegedly will be named Galaxy
View. Samsung itself is still not willing to open up about the device, but if
you are curious about what it looks like, let's take a look at the huge tablet
from Alcatel.
Named Alcatel OneTouch Xess, is one of today's biggest
tablet. Alcatel provides 17.3-inch touch screen at a resolution of 1080p into
the stainless steel body which is only 9.15 mm thick. Alcatel provides a stand
that can be tilted in three positions: 75 degrees, 50 degrees and 30 degrees.
Alcatel explains that these three positions are intended for different needs;
the 30 degrees for the drawing purposes, the 50 degrees for cooking, and the 75
degrees for watching video.
Indeed 17.3 inch is ideal for watching movies, but Alcatel
understands that the audio quality is also noteworthy. Therefore, Alcatel also
provides the OneTouch Xess with a pair of JBL speakers, 3 watt on each speaker.
This jumbo tablet also brings gesture-based controls, so users don't need to
touch the screen when they use this tablet while cooking; they just need to
wave hand in front of the screen.
Alcatel OneTouch Xess is equipped with MediaTek octa-core
processor, 2 GB RAM, 32 GB internal storage - there is no information about the
availability of microSD slot - and this tablet is running on Android 5.1
Lollipop operating system. The extra large size enables Alcatel to put a 10,000mAh
battery inside its body.
Alcatel doesn't mention about the price of this device, but
according to the plan this tablet will be marketed nearing the end of this year
along with a number of complementary accessories.
