Speaking of Virtual Reality (VR), certainly the most
highlighted product in this realm is the VR headset itself, such as Oculus
Rift, HTC Vive, Samsung Gear VR, Google Cardboard and others. All the VR
headsets have one purpose: to bring users into virtual world that feels very
real.
In addition to VR headset, the controller also plays an
important role in enhancing the realistic impression that's brought by the
virtual reality technology. In the launch of public version of Oculus Rift, we
were also introduced with a controller named Oculus Touch, which's basically a
mini joystick that's accompanied with a series of sensors to read the movements
of fingers and hands.
But it will be more interesting if there's a controller
which's made in the form of gloves, so that your hands and fingers can move
more naturally, this idea that's promoted by Manus Machina through its first
product, The Manus.
The Manus is claimed to be the first VR gloves in the world.
The Manus looks like regular gloves, with weight only 42 grams of each glove.
At the wrist part, there is a small box containing a series of sensors to read
the movements of the hands and each finger.
The Manus utilizes Bluetooth LE connection, so there's no
wire that will disturb user's movements. In one-time charge, the battery is
expected to last up to 5 to 6 hours.
The Manus is developed by utilizing OSVR platform created by
Razer. The Manus can be used with the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, or Samsung Gear
VR, where its tracking system will be integrated automatically into the system
of each VR headset.
Currently The Manus is still undergoing completion stage
before it is ready to be launched at 2016. The price of its retail version
later is estimated at $ 200. For now, you can see the demonstration of its
prototype via the video below.
