Have you ever had difficulty when you want to write long
sentence on the Twitter's Direct Message (DM) feature? Well ... you are not alone;
there are lots of Twitter users who experience the same problem.
Direct Message (DM), is a feature that allows Twitter users
to send private messages to each other. However, just like the Twitter status update,
DM is also limited up to 140 characters (including spaces and punctuation).
With this limitation, users often get difficulty when they
have to write long sentence to explain important thing. To overcome the
limitation, usually the users must divide the long sentence into several pieces
of DM separately.
Twitter seems aware about this problem; the good news is recently
Twitter has announced that they will begin to eliminate the 140-character
limitation only for the DM feature.
Later the user can enter 10,000 characters on DM feature,
this feature can officially be enjoyed by users on July 1, 2015, the same date
when Dick Costolo officially gives up his position as Twitter CEO. Despite both
the news are coming from the same company, but the policy changes of DM
character number has nothing to do with the resignation of Dick Costolo.
On Twitter developers’ forum, Twitter has released official
information and provided update to the API (Application Programming Interface)
related to this recent change. However, the 140 characters limitation is
still applied for status update on Twitter.
With the presence of this support, the DM feature in Twitter
becomes more attractive because this feature can be utilized as instant
messaging application that can be used to chat between users.
