Indeed potholed streets are very annoying. No matter how
expensive your car and how sophisticated it is, the holes in the streets can
still make you feel upset. And the
worse, the potholed streets often cause severe traffic accident and damage to
your car.
Seeing this problem, Land Rover develops new technology
called Pothole Alert. Simply put, this technology involves a pair of cameras
mounted on the front of the car and a number of sensors on the suspension to
detect holes in the streets.
Data will be collected and uploaded to the cloud, so the
more cars use this technology, the more efficient the alert given to the
driver, including the other drivers.
In addition to give warning about the holes in front of the
car, this technology also allows the car suspension to automatically adjust so
it will absorb the shocks more effectively. Everything takes place in a matter
of seconds so that the driver can be more comfortable.
In the future, this technology is even believed to be able
to control the car automatically when potholed streets are detected, either by
avoiding the holes or braking so that shocks won't feel too bad.
Land Rover is also working with the government of Coventry
city in maximizing the potential of Pothole Alert technology. The idea is, the
data of potholed streets that has been collected can be used by government to
make roadwork.
Pothole Alert is still in the development stage, and there
is no information when this technology will be implemented into the Land Rover
cars. Even so, we can get an idea that technology can help us in dealing with
the problems that exist in the streets.
