After the prototype was exhibited at the beginning of March,
the iris scanning technology for smartphones made by Fujitsu apparently has
been ready to be commercialized. They introduce a new smartphone called Arrows NX F-04G that has been equipped with this technology.
If in the prototype, iris scanning technology still required
additional equipment that's placed on the top of the smartphone, then the final
product doesn't need it anymore. As we can see, the top of the Fujitsu Arrows
NX F-04G looks standard when it's compared to other smartphones.
The technology named Iris Passport can be regarded as Touch
ID for the eyes; it combines a front camera, infrared LED and an infrared
filter so that the phone can identify users without the need to input a
password or fingerprint scan. All it takes is eye contact between users with
the smartphones.
After previously calibrated, Iris Passport allows users to
open their smartphones in just 0.6 seconds, doing nothing but looking at the
smartphones. Iris Passport can be combined with a password manager application
so that users can use it to authenticate on different websites or applications.
For the security, Fujitsu claims that the users' iris data will be stored
locally, just like the Touch ID.
From the standpoint of smartphones in general, Fujitsu
Arrows NX F-04G seems promising. It brings a 5.2-inch IPS screen, with a
resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels. Its performance is supported by the
Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset, with the octa-core processor (2 GHz quad + 1.5
GHz quad), 3 GB RAM, 32 GB internal storage, and runs Android 5.0 Lollipop
operating system.
For rear camera, Fujitsu entrusts it to 1/2.4-inch CMOS
sensor from Sony, which is capable of producing images in a resolution of 21.5
megapixels, and 4K video in 30 fps. Furthermore the 2.4 megapixels front camera
also contains facial recognition technology. In addition, Fujitsu has provided
this smartphone with 3.120mAh battery.
Besides Iris Passport, the Fujitsu Arrows NX F-04G has been
equipped with TransferJet technology. The TransferJet is simply a wireless
transmission technology between devices that are close together. So when you
juxtapose two Fujitsu Arrows NX F-04G smartphones, you can move various file
with transfer speeds of 375 Mbps.
So far there has been no news on the availability of Fujitsu Arrows NX F-04G outside Japan. In Japan, Fujitsu is working with NTT DoCoMo to
market the Arrows NX F-04G.
