Some games like Dear Esther, Gone Home, and The Stanley
Parable are able to trigger the competition of experimental gameplay. The crazy
idea is the main weapon, and the perfect execution makes this genre is loved by
public. If the above games make you feel challenged, a new title is being prepared
by a former Creative Director of Microsoft, Adam Orth.
Do you still remember with the Gravity movie? Starring
Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, this film tells about the astronauts who are
floating in space. Orth wants to put this experience into a video game. And In
2013, the development of ADR1FT was begun, an interactive exploration game in
the first-person perspective.
ADR1FT's premise is very interesting, and the developer
tries to avoid the violence theme. The game puts the player as an astronaut.
Without the memory of previous events, you wake up and float in a vacuum space.
ADR1FT will challenge you with a simple mission: survive and return to Earth.
And the only way to survive is to repair the spacecraft.
Player is welcome to explore the zero gravity zones, but you
must be careful because the oxygen supply is limited. You should always keep an
eye on the supply, and immediately recharge it when the oxygen supply runs out.
When oxygen is depleted, the view will be blurred, and it will cause a fatal
risk. ADR1FT has five giant areas, containing an assortment of puzzles that are
waiting to be solved.
Like the majority of survival games, the narratives and
stories are delivered via audio recordings. They will give you a description
about the cause of the accident at the space station. The player can also
collect objects belonging to the other crew who are killed, and asked to
determine whether the objects are worth to be taken or not.
Orth and his friends in the Three One Zero studio explain
that ADR1FT is a developer's response to the 'boredom' in creating shooter
games. They also take a lot of inspiration from other games such as Journey and
the Half-Life series.
ADR1FT is made to be launched in the Windows PC platform,
the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Especially for the PC, the game is purposely
organized in order to support the head-mounted display virtual reality Oculus
Rift.
