Facing the next stage of virtual reality era, the technology
manufacturers are competing to create the newest flagship VR devices. For
Oculus VR, the perfection can be obtained through the support of advanced
hardware. But Google wants to allow everyone to enjoy the virtual reality
experience. And that's why they prepare a platform and simultaneously a draft
of DIY head-mounted display, Cardboard.
With only about US $ 20, you can assemble your own virtual
reality headset. This offer is very interesting for general consumers, as well
as to encourage developers to participate in compounding the content. But
because the Cardboard system is actually based on a smartphone, the
presentation is limited to the device performance and also design. For the last
problem, Google tries to solve it through the update of Cardboard draft.
In the Google I/O 2015 event that's held at the Moscone
Center, the Internet giant company from California reveals the design update.
The aim is to make de design could support more types of handsets, particularly
the types that have wide screens, up to six-inch. The IDevice owners can also
rejoice because Google also launches its VR application to the iOS platform.
iPhone 6 is paired with Cardboard? Yes you can!
In this latest version, Cardboard becomes a bit larger.
Google has replaced the magnetic buttons in the previous design with conductive
foam as the main input system. The manufacturing process is simpler than the
old Cardboard, now it just passes three stages. If you have previously used the
old Cardboard, the new design still feels familiar. The iPhone 6 or Nexus 6 can
be easily tucked on the front side.
Apple devices users can download the Google Cardboard in the
app store for free. There presented some software demos such as Explorer,
Kaleidoscope, Exhibit (see objects on the museum), and Urban Hike (exploring
the famous cities in the world). In addition to the iPhone 6, Cardboard is also
compatible with the 6 Plus, the iPhone 5S, 5C and 5.
For the further content development, Google works with the
leading action camera manufacturer, GoPro. Their task is to provide 'Jump Ring'
360-Degree Camera Array housing for creating 360 degree videos. The device
consists of 16 pieces of HERO4 holders, allowing it to work as a single unit.
It will be assisted by sophisticated algorithms software to integrate the
separate videos, and ensure the synchronization runs smoothly.
The instructions for manufacturing the new design of
Cardboard can be obtained at Google Cardboard official website.
