Car manufacturers today understand that consumers not only
wish for a stable engine performance, but they also demand on a slick audio
system in the car. On several occasions, the car manufacturers cooperate with
some parties who are competent in the audio system world. Audi, for example,
they trust Bang & Olufsen to work on the 3D audio system on their flagship
SUV, the Q7.
If Audi, the German car manufacturer is partnering with the
audio expert from Denmark, then on another occasion, Ford the US car
manufacturer chooses to cooperate with Japanese electronics manufacturer, Sony,
in order to work on the cutting-edge audio system in their car. Amazingly, Sony
provides their home audio technology for the brand-new Ford Explorer Platinum 2016.
This SUV audio system consists of 12 speakers which are
placed in 10 different locations, an 8-inch subwoofer, a number of door woofers
and tweeters, and a Class D amplifier unit. When combined, the total output
produced reaches 50 watt.
However, the specifications above are not the main news,
because this is the first time Sony is pinning their premium class home audio
technology into a car cabin. There are two mainstay technologies carried by
this car: Live Acoustics and Clear Phase.
As the name implies, Live Acoustics technology utilizes a
special algorithm to create an impression as if the passengers were in the middle
of a concert hall. In its development, Sony sent a number of engineers to
various concert halls in the Amsterdam, Berlin and Vienna to learn about the
acoustics elements precisely.
At the same time, the Clear Phase technology is in harmony
with the Live Acoustics. This technology will optimize the distribution of
sound in the car cabin, making an impression as if the sound comes from a room
that's much bigger than the Explorer Platinum cabin.
Not only that, the Clear Phase will also ensure that each
instrument sound and vocal could be heard from the different zones. The hope is
the passengers can feel the pleasure of music that's commonly performed in a
live concert.
Ford Explorer Platinum 2016 is planned to be marketed this
summer, although there has been no detail about the price.
