In the annual event of Google I/O, there are some
interesting new things presented, in addition to the presence of the developer
version of Android N. One of the highlights is the presence of a new
communication application from Google called Duo, the companion of Allo
application which's also introduced by Google in that event.
Duo is a call application that by
default is protected by end-to-end encryption feature. Ensuring any secret
that's stored in the application will be safe from the touch of any party. But
the most interesting capability of the Duo is the Knock Knock feature that lets
users to see the real-time display of the caller before the call is answered.
Duo also allows users to connect to other calling services like Skype,
Whatsapp, Hangouts and of course Facebook Messenger.
If Allo focuses on the interaction
that's utilizing Google Assistant, Duo can be compared with FaceTime
application that's developed by Apple. It's used for two-way conversation
between two people through a video display.
Duo is built by the same team that has created the WebRTC
which uses a new protocol called Quic. The Quic is programming protocol that was
introduced by Google last year which promises to accelerate the transfer of
large amounts of data when the application is connected to the internet.
About the competition between Duo
and Hangouts, Google ensures that Hangouts will continue to exist despite Allo
and Duo have been running in the mobile realm later. The Duo is planned to
start its debut in August till September 2016.
