Hyundai is one of the automotive companies that give big
attention to the development of digital technology. Previously Hyundai became
one of the first automotive manufacturers that utilize smartwatch as a car key.
Now, Hyundai becomes the first automotive company that launches manual book
(guide book) in the form of augmented reality.
Named Hyundai Virtual Guide, this application can be
downloaded on a smartphone or tablet, either Android or iOS. Furthermore, user
is simply pointing the device's camera to the car to see the guide related to a
series of components in front of him.
The way it works is actually much like the Ferrari Augmented
Reality Showroom, but that application is intended for promotional purposes,
while Hyundai Virtual Guide is designed to help consumers to take care of the
car independently.
So when the user directs the device's camera to the
instrument panel in the dashboard, the application will display an overlay of
each indicator light in front of him. From there user can learn what the
purpose or function of each indicator along with other buttons on the dashboard.
Thus, the car owner no longer needs to wonder about the function of existing
features in the cars.
Another example is the application will teach directly how
to change the oil or release the air filter inside the hood. Everything is
displayed right above the car image that appears on the screen, not in the form
of video. In addition, Hyundai Virtual Guide also packs about 82 video guides
that can be watched at any time the user wants.
Hyundai Virtual Guide Application is planned to be released in
this year on Google Play and the App Store. So far the type of car that has
been supported by this application is the Hyundai Sonata 2015, while the other
variants of cars will follow after the application is launched.
