Not long ago, we've seen the debut of Fossil in the
competition of wearable devices. From a total of 4 devices which were
introduced, there was one device that managed to attract a lot of attentions,
namely Fossil Q Founder smartwatch. Fossil is now ready to market its first
Android Wear smartwatch.
Fossil Q Founder is the result of collaboration with Intel
and Google - similar step that's taken by Tag Heuer. The result of this
collaboration is the Intel Atom chipset which becomes the brain of the device,
not Qualcomm Snapdragon as we usually find in other Android Wear smartwatches.
At the same time, Google is of course responsible for running the operating
system.
Fossil seems reluctant to reveal the detailed information of
the Intel Atom processor used and the amount of RAM embedded. Fossil Q Founder
relies on a touch screen that's packaged in a case with a diameter of 46 mm,
with a thickness of 13 mm and 72 grams weight; it's large enough due to the use
of stainless steel material.
Fossil Q Founder carries IP67 water resistance certification.
This smartwatch has 22mm removable strap, however for now Fossil will only
offer the strap with stainless steel material, but in the future there will be
strap which's made from leather.
There is a storage capacity of 4 GB, which would become the
home of Android Wear OS. However, Fossil also gives its own modifications such
as special watch faces and unique feature called Q Curiosity, where users will
be presented with a number of challenges each day.
According to Fossil, this feature is designed so that the
users can feel that every day is a special day. A series of sensors such as
accelerometer and gyroscope are also presented in order to enable the function
of fitness tracking. Because it's powered by Android Wear, the Fossil Q Founder
is also compatible with Android and iOS devices via Bluetooth 4.1.
Fossil Q Founder is equipped with a 400mAh battery that's
expected can last for 24 hours of usage. Its charging process is relying on a
special dock that also serves as a 'display dock' of the smartwatch itself. Fossil
Q Founder is offered at a price of $ 295, it's quite competitive if compared to
other Android Wear smartwatches such as Moto 360 or Huawei Watch.
